VarisTech is the web design and web hosting brand for the work of Michael Thornton. He is actually a Physics teacher by trade but has always enjoyed coding since he was in primary school in the 80’s (Yes, he feels that old).
About Me
Michael’s love of coding began as a pupil at Logie primary school, where he discovered the schools Sinclair Spectrum 48K computer (The classic with the rubber keys). He discovered it was possible to hack into the code of one of the schools educational games (Grannys Garden) and change the text to whatever he wanted.
At Forres Academy, he discovered the world of PC’s and immediately began learning about them in a world that had yet to really adopt the computer. His computing teacher said that it was “time for Michael to stop fiddling and work with a purpose”. Good advice from Mr MacDonald. He did start working with a purpose, but never really stopped fiddling.
Eventually at university, the internet was discovered. Still very much in it’s infancy, and fiddling coupled with the coding learned both at university and during his spare time has developed over the years.
One of the the result(s) is VarisTech.
Michael originally attended Edinburgh University in the 90’s to study for his degree – BSc. Physics(Hons) and he graduated in 1998. After graduation he spent a number of years working in various fields including retail management and B2B telecoms.
Eventually in 2013 he decided to do something worthwhile with his life and retrained as a Physics teacher and now works at a local secondary school. It’s not easy, but it’s still the best decision he ever made.
My Home
I am based the small town of Forres, Moray in the North of Scotland. Its a beautiful part of the world on the Moray coast and it’s well worth a visit if you ever get time.
